Turmeric

Turmeric ( Curcuma longa) is a perennial plant belonging to ginger’s family. The stalks of the root, also known as rhizomes of turmeric are ground to the bright yellow-golden powder that is utilized as a spice to color and enhance the flavor of food items. Curcumin, the chemical component that is found in turmeric, has been utilized for centuries in Ayurvedic along with traditional Chinese medical practices to treat inflammation and immune-supporting properties.

Turmeric can be found in powder, root or as a supplement. Research is advancing to support the application of turmeric to the skin with creams or gels which contains extracts from the turmeric root to improve symptoms of Eczema. While the field of research is in its early stages the use of turmeric on the skin may be able to alleviate the symptoms of eczema, by decreasing inflammation and aiding in the healing of the skin.
